Geo Cache and Kayak Paddling Event Friday May 23rd 5:00-7:00pm
Kayaking and Geocaching Adventure with Sheree Lincoln.? Local geocaching enthusiast Jim Chimner of Straits Area Geocachers Club will have set up hidden geocaches along the Indian River and the Little Sturgeon River near Marina Park for this special paddling event. The Launch site for this event is DeVoe Beach on Burt Lake. The 18 GeoCaches added for this event will remain in place long after the kayaking event – for your geocaching enjoyment!
Weather permitting we will be heading into the Indian River from Burt Lake and paddling down river to the confluence of the Indian River and the Little Sturgeon River (past the Straits Highway Bridges near Marina Park). There will be geocaches that can be reached from land so anyone who wishes to participate without kayaking still can! If there is a lot of wind on the lake or snow in the parking lot we will proceed to an alternate launch site around the corner and head directly into the river.
After we find caches we will be paddling back up the Indian River to the launch site on DeVoe Beach on Burt Lake. If you are bringing your own kayak please meet at the launch site at 5:00 pm. If you are renting a kayak from BrassWind Landing Boat Rental then please meet at 6240 Mack Avenue, Indian River, MI 49749. EarthWeek special kayak rental fee is $15.00.
